SunGard Availability Services Completes Its Biggest Ever PC Refresh
LONDON - 18 May 2010: SunGard Availability Services has recently completed its fourth desktop technology refresh in ten years, deploying 7,400 new PCs across its UK Recovery Centres. This latest investment in SunGard’s Workplace Recovery services demonstrates SunGard’s ongoing commitment to providing its customers the best possible alternative workplace solution following disruption to their normal office environments.
The PC refresh will also help SunGard decrease its desktop energy consumption by up to 45% at idle as the power supplies on the new machines are more power efficient than standard industry units. This reinforces the industrial-strength infrastructure on which SunGard can offer new services and support the latest technologies.
“We have invested in our technical infrastructure to deliver a virtualised recovery capability that seamlessly integrates with our physical Workplace Recovery service,” said Keith Tilley, managing director UK and executive vice president Europe for SunGard Availability Services. “We pride ourselves on our facilities and processes, ensuring we continue to maintain our track record of 100% successful support of our customers’ recoveries.”
"When it comes to 'getting back to work', experience has shown that getting desktop access to recovered systems can be more time consuming than recovering central systems. Also, if you cannot deliver corporate IT services all the way to the desktop, then clearly, the benefits of having disaster recovery in place may not be achieved," commented Martin Atherton, service director, Freeform Dynamics.
The refresh, which encompasses new quad core PCs that manage virtualised desktop images, will not only allow SunGard to continue providing a fast, reliable recovery service in keeping with the processing demands of modern applications, but also removes the need for customers to invest in technology upgrades themselves.
“The rapid rate at which technology is developing can mean that some companies’ ability to recover after an incident can be hindered if recovery systems fail to keep pace with clients’ needs. Even our most demanding customers can look to us as an Information Availability partner to help ensure their business remains operational when disruptions occur. We continually invest in technology in order to provide SunGard customers with an up to date infrastructure in the event of a disaster,” explained Tilley.
